Atlanta Union Mission was established in 1938 as a refuge for individuals in crisis, displaced by the Great Depression. Over the years, just as Atlanta has expanded, so too has the Mission grown from a single shelter to six campuses and four (soon to be six) Thrift Stores providing hope to those in need in the Greater Metro Atlanta area and beyond. Every day the Mission still provides refuge through emergency food and shelter, residential recovery programs, and transitional housing to as many as 1,200 homeless, addicted or disenfranchised men, women, and their children who find themselves in crisis, but choose to change.
Thrift stores and collections centers are currently located in Athens, Commerce, Gainesville, and Winder, Ga. But watch for new stores to open in Marietta and Roswell in the first quarter of 2010. The Mission is working to stock all their stores for the holiday season.
They are in constant need of all donations even furniture, appliances, and cars to boost their income. Even non-working appliances go to good use to teach vocational skills in their men’s programs at The Potter’s House in Jefferson, Ga.
To schedule a pickup in your area go online and fill out an easy request form. For more information go to their Web site by clicking here Atlanta Union Mission.
