Well, it seems fitting with everything going on in our nation today that we need to take time to try to convince Congress that we need a national holiday to celebrate Jack Daniel’s birthday. (Hey guys, I don’t make this stuff up.) Since this month marks the 160thcelebration of Jack Daniel’s birthday, Jack Daniel’s is asking its friends and supporters (ages 21 and up) from Florida to Washington state, California to Maine, beginning September 1st to sign the petition calling on Congress to establish a national holiday in honor of his birthday. The Jack Daniel Distillery is the oldest registered distillery in the United States and is proudly based in the South in Lynchburg, Tenn. The maker of the world-famous Jack Daniel’s Old No. 7 Tennessee Whiskey and other Jack Daniel’s products is fully aware that there are many serious things going on in our country today, but thought they’d have a little fun with this long-shot request.
Supporters can sign up at JDBDay.com; via Facebook and text message; at bars and other locations; and, in select cities, at the Jack Daniel’s campaign bus. At the end of the month, petitions will be delivered to Washington, D.C. and the rest will be up to our political leaders. Since the folks at Jack Daniel’s don’t know the exact date of his birth in September, they’ll ask Congress for whatever day Congress chooses in September. Who knows, perhaps it will be the Tuesday after Labor Day (like today) and we’ll have an annual four-day holiday weekend.
