For those of us that love to cook and eat great food almost always enjoy great wine and we wine enthusiasts can’t throw a cork away. We have them in kitchen drawers, containers, and bowls as some badge of honor to all the wine we’ve consumed, paired, and enjoyed. So now instead of having corks pile up all around your house, you can feel good about doing something with them by giving them another life. Cork ReHarvest and Whole Foods have made it easy by having a collection box in all their stores in the United States, Canada and the United Kingdom and then they’re send to cork recycling partners across North America.
Each of the cork recycling partners has different products that the corks are used for once they’re recycled, since the corks cannot be reused for wine bottles again. In Missouri they are used in making cork floor tiles; in Oregon they are used to make wine shippers; in Nebraska they are used to make fishing cork bobbers; and in Illinois and Canada they are used for a variety of consumer and/or industrial products. So pop another bottle of wine and recycle those corks. To learn more go to Cork ReHarvest or Whole Food’s Blog on Cork ReHarvest.

Love this tidbit on a cork’s second life. We’ll have to be on the lookout for those recycling bins. Thanks for sharing!
You can glue then to wood and use them to put hot pots on so you don’t mess up your counter! (That’s what I do!!!)
