Once again, Atlanta Home & Lifestyles magazine brings together the best of the best to showcase this year’s Home for the Holidays Designer Showhouse. The hit parade of talent includes Charles Heydt of Pak Heydt & Associates, builder David Childers of MacAllan Custom Homes, landscape architect Graham Pittman and a selection of some of the region’s finest design talents. This A-team of Atlanta’s design community came together to masterfully renovate and decorate a stunning home at 2490 Woodward Way NW, just off Peachtree Battle Avenue, as a fund raiser for Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta.

I want you to go visit the house for yourself, so instead of showing you a lot of photographs of the house, I thought I’d share some of the home’s holiday decorations, so you can easily incorporate some of these ideas into your home this holiday season.

Tour the home at 2490 Woodward Way NW, Atlanta, Ga. from Thursday through Saturday 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Sunday 1 to 4 p.m. through Dec. 11. Admission $25 at door. Parking at ADAC at 351 Peachtree Hills Avenue NE, Atlanta, with complimentary shuttle service. For more information visit www.atlantaholidayhome.com.

Home for the Holidays Showhouse 2017

This year’s Home for the Holidays Showhouse started with a complete renovation of a home in Atlanta’s premiere Buckhead neighborhood. The home embodies Atlanta’s historic character of home in this neighborhood. The front porch decor by Boxwoods Gardens & Gifts.

Home for the Holidays Bar

Add garland into spaces like your pantry, wet bar and dry bar making even the smaller spaces of your home feel festive. Jason Mitchell of J Ansel Design added garland around the abstract art piece. The space is functional and visually interesting.

Home for the Holidays Basket of Packages

An empty corner in your home can be made cheerful by filling a large basket with wrapped holiday presents, even having some spilling out onto the floor.

Home for the Holidays Bathroom

Add wreaths to your bathroom mirrors and adorn with bows that complement your bathroom’s color scheme. This loggia powder room and the ground floor powder (not pictured) were designed by Peacock Alley.

Peacock Alley filled three sizes of cypriot jars with cotton branches. It softens the wall and makes the space feel like balls of snow.

Home for the Holidays Dining Room

Womack Jowers Interiors fills the dining room’s centerpiece with ornaments as well as adding a few to the two orchard arrangement flanking the banquet; then lined the dining room bench with wrapped presents.

Maps are an integral part of travel, but for those taking to the skies with checked bags, visibility to a piece of luggage and its journey through the belly of the airport and from one plane to the next is lacking. That’s changing for Delta Air Lines customers who now have a map view of their bag’s last scanned location on the Fly Delta mobile app.

“We’re the first carrier to offer this level of visibility,” said Bill Lentsch, Delta’s Senior Vice President – Airline Operations and Airport Customer Service. “From the moment our customers drop off their bag, we want them to know we’re looking out for it every step of the way and working to take the stress out of flying one innovation at a time.”

The new map enhancement builds on Delta’s industry-first, system-wide launch of RadioFrequency Identification (RFID) bag tags and the roll out of RFID tracking technology at 84 airports in the U.S. All domestic stations now offer map view of the bag’s journey and international stations will receive this technology in the coming months.

When a customer wants to see the location of their bag on the map, the display starts by showing a zoomed out map of the U.S. as the bag travels from one airport to the next. The map then automatically zooms to airport view and users can follow their bag along its journey via pins, with the last known location identified by a suitcase icon. Tapping any of the pins or the icon will provide additional text information about the location of the bag.

Push notifications will sync with the app later this year and offer Delta customers down-to–the-minute updates on their checked baggage.

For those of us that love to entertain, and for those of us that don’t…you always want to have something delicious to serve when you have guests or when guests pop over unexpectedly. A girlfriend of mine created the perfect appetizer to serve for any occasion. Everyone knows how easy slice and bake cookies are to make, so think slice and bake crackers that she calls Impromptus Savory Shortbreads. There are three delicious flavors made with quality ingredients that yields about three dozen a package.

Impromptus with Wine

The flavors include:

Thyme for Parm:  The perfect blend of aged Parmesan cheese and fresh thyme mixed together with sweet creamery butter, flour and simple seasonings. The perfect nibble with wine or cocktails.

Zesty Pimento Cheese:  A Southern favorite with a twist! White and yellow sharp cheddar cheeses and pimentos mixed together with sweet creamery butter, flour and some special spices to add the zest.

Asiago Loves Rosemary:  The perfect bite for any occasion. Aged Asiago cheese and fresh rosemary mixed together with sweet creamery butter, flour and simple seasonings

Impromptus PackageWhat I personally love about these, because I’ve baked all three flavors, is that the packaging includes the cut lines which makes it super easy to get a perfect three dozen. But even the parchment paper to bake them on a cookie sheet is incorporated into the super cute packaging. It’s a refrigerated products, but can be frozen for use at a later time.

Cost $13 each. Order all three flavors via email at myimpromptus @ gmail.com.

POST NOTE: October 30, 2016 – All three flavors of Impromptus Savory Shortbreads are available now at all three area Oli & Ve locations including Buckhead, Historic Roswell and Historic Vinings, Georgia.
