It‘s wonderful to see so many events back at Piedmont Park since the city of Atlanta restricted events in the park during our drought last year. It’s just not the same to finish the Peachtree Road Race anywhere but Piedmont Park or to see the Dogwood Festival moved to the parking lot of Lenox Mall. But these and more major events are back in the park including the Sir Paul McCartney “The Green Concert” tomorrow night, Saturday, August 15.
This year’s concert is in honor of the Piedmont Park Conservancy’s 20th anniversary and will also feature special guests The Script, an Irish trio whose music is a whole new brand of Celtic Soul, blending hip-hop, R&B and Pop. This environmentally themed concert will continue to raise funds for Piedmont Park’s 53-acre expansion and maintenance, while promoting environmental sustainability. The concert takes center stage in the restored 10th Street Meadow next to Park Tavern.
Can you believe that Paul McCartney hasn’t performed in an outdoor venue in Atlanta since the Beatles’ only stop here in 1965? I don’t know how many Beatles’ groupies that saw them perform in Atlanta in 1965 will be attending Saturday night’s performance but it will be fun to see the concert and the crown and speculate.
The only tickets left through Ticketmaster are the $400 VIP tickets including VIP reception. This is a general admission, standing room only event. Doors will open at 5:00 p.m. There will be no onsite parking for this event. Everyone attending is encouraged to ride MARTA. Everyone who purchased through the American Express and Piedmont Park Conservancy presales will be allowed to enter the venue at 4:00 p.m. Music starts at 7 p.m.

Paul has been there since 65 as I saw him live and he had Heather with him. Put on a great show..not sure what year but not that long ago. He stayed at the fancy hotel on 14th??? and folks who were there at the hotel said he played piano and entertained them after the show at the hotel.
I have to say that the Paul McCartney Green concert was one of the best shows I’ve ever seen…and I’m a rabid concert-goer! The sound in the meadow of Piedmont Park is amazing. The surrounding views of the city skyscape and the gorgeous green grass and lush plants dotting the landscape make this venue stunning. I thoroughly enjoyed being with my good friends, Wendy and Tim, also! I only regret missing “Blackbird” while dodging the rain!
