I had one of the best gourmet barbecue sandwiches this weekend at Muss & Turner’s in Smyrna, Georgia or what we affectionately call “Smyings”—a hybrid of Smyrna and Vinings. It was called the Swifty’s Dream because according to the menu it pays homage to great friend and chef, Jay Swift.
It’s pulled pork shoulder, slow smoked for hours, tossed in M&T’s Carolina-style BBQ sauce. Served with spicy horseradish slaw and topped with applewood smoked bacon on a challah bun ($9.93 for the regular sandwich; $11.93 for the large). I didn’t want the bacon but requested it on the side because I wanted to try it. I was glad I did because I didn’t want to pig out literally on too much “divine swine” as they called it. It seemed overkill on the pork or pig (sorry Mr. pig, another pun) but the bacon wasn’t crispy, which is how I like it. I’m sure it could have been requested crispy; or without the bacon altogether. The sandwich is served with your choice of homemade pickle. Add salt and vinegar chips and a glass of Fire Road Marlbourough Sauvignon Blanc and it was the perfect Saturday lunch on a raining afternoon in Atlanta.
They serve lunch and dinner Monday – Saturday 11:30 a.m. – 9:00 p.m. Sunday brunch 10:00 – 2:30 p.m. They have an impressive wine selection including over 25 wines by the glass as well as artisan beers.
