Business Woman: Genie Beaver, Owner, West Stride
West Stride is a dream come true for owner Genie Beaver. Genie has run since middle school and was an Oklahoma state champion in high school in the 800m, mile, two mile and two-mile relay. Genie also ran at Georgetown University and was a two time All America in the 3000m and a member of the team that placed third in the ‘92 NCAA cross-country championships. Post collegiately, she runs for fun and for competitive road racing as well as to stay healthy and socially active in the sport.
Description of Business: West Stride is a specialty running retailer located at the intersection of Northside Parkway and West Paces Ferry Road in Atlanta. At West Stride, it is their sole mission to help their customers achieve their running and fitness goals, whether it’s getting to the starting line for their first 5k or finishing multiple marathons. Through hands-on, attentive customer service and a unique, thorough fitting process their trained and knowledgeable staff is devoted to helping their customers “hit their stride.” They carry a full line of training and racing shoes, spikes and flats, as well as a wide array of apparel for all seasons and tastes. They also stock an assortment of accessories, ranging from nutrition products and injury prevention tools to socks, watches, and sunglasses.
Wendy’s personal note: If you’re looking for running buddies for early morning runs they have a group that meet at 6:00 am Wednesday mornings from the Caribou Coffee in their shopping center. Runs range from 3-8 miles (with the option to tack on more, of course) and they welcome all paces and ability levels. Just wanted to say I love West Stride and Genie, too! So glad you profiled her–she is very encouraging to me as a beginning runner and does such a great job balancing all of her many roles. This is my third time participating in her Sisters N Stride running group on Tuesday mornings and I sometimes go to the Saturday morning runs (6am is a wee bit too early for me…). She’s helped me go from dreading running to actually liking it by offering good advice and training plans, good mentors, great quality gear and the camaraderie that comes from running with others.
