West Midtown has a new restaurant jewel on the corner of Howell Mill Road and Marietta Street with the recently opened Bocado. Executive Chef Todd Ginsberg and owner/proprietor Brian Lewis merge their styles to bring what I consider a breath of fresh air in Atlanta’s food and restaurant arena. Bocado serves up their own style to the farm-to-table concept with dishes that aren’t pretentious but delicious. The restaurant is a clean, simple minimalist style with stained concrete floors to wine bottles displayed in circular metal wall cut outs to sparkling wine glasses in the bar’s street front windows. The restaurant offers both inside and outside dining spaces plus a contemporary lounging area that flanks Howell Mill so you can enjoy a libation while you enjoy the vive of West Midtown.

Todd was previously at The Dining Room at The Ritz Carlton, Asher, TAPS, and TRIOS, all in Atlanta, with a stint in Paris in between. Brian previously owned TABLE in Birmingham, Alabama.

I dined there for lunch on day three, 12, and 15 and found the staff knowledgeable and friendly. Start with a side of sweet grass dairy cheese that more than likely was delivered from the cheese artisan that morning. We tried three of their signature sandwiches which included the roasted poblano, pimento cheese, bacon, fried green tomato with spicy remoulade; the roasted turkey breast, ham, gruyere, lemon crème fraiche, and arugula; and grilled ham and cheese, Dijon mustard, caramelized onions and apples. All sandwich breads are sourced from Holman & Finch Bread Company.

Try them for dinner as well which features “shared” plates and entrees. Full bar, wine and beer.

887 Howell Mill Road. Lunch hours Monday – Friday 11 a.m. – 2:30 p.m., Saturday 11:30 a.m. – 2:30 p.m. Dinner Monday – Saturday beginning at 5:00 p.m. Closed Sunday. www.bocadoatlanta.com

Went to Bocado with a friend for lunch today and loved it! We both had the signature poblano pimento cheese sandwich and shared an order of garlic/herb French fries. Both were outstanding! he sandwich was like eating an adult gourmet grilled cheese…delicious. Can’t wait to go back and try something else. Thanks for the great recommendation….keep them coming!
