Many of us will have out-of-town company visiting this month with the holidays approaching. One of my favorite Atlanta restaurants to take guests to for a great southern lunch experience—no matter what time of year—is Watershed Restaurant. Watershed Restaurant in downtown Decatur is located in a converted gas station that’s now a relaxed neighborhood spot with a crisp and clean décor. The James Beard Award-winning chef Scott Peacock was a protégé of Edna Lewis as well as chef to two governors and founding chef of Horseradish Grill.

Watershed specializes in seasonal southern cooking with my southern favorites including their pimento cheese as an appetizer or sandwich, creamy stone ground shrimp grits and pullman plank, hot vegetable plate (changes daily), shrimp or oyster po’ boy, and salmon croquettes. They also feature boutique wines from small producers and many by the glass. And no southern meal, including a meal at Watershed, is complete without an old fashioned, made-from-scratch southern desserts.
