Most of we Atlantans, and perhaps other Southerners, may be housebound today due to the weather which includes snow, sleet and ice. So I thought today would be a great day to make a big pot of homemade soup and share with you my personal favorites. I’ve selected a nice variety hoping you’ll have all the ingredients to make at least one of these, so you don’t have to go back out to the grocery store. I’ve personally made all of these, with the exception of the South Carolina She-Crab Soup which I’m making today, so they are tried-and-true tested recipes in my kitchen. I’ll let you know on Facebook tomorrow how the South Carolina She-Crab South turns out. Please share with us your favorite homemade soups whether you, grandma or Souper Jenny makes it.

It’s a good day to make a homemade soup including Creamy Tomato Soup

Pumpkin and Shrimp Bisque, Epiciuous.com, March 2000, from The Herbfarm Cookbook by Jerry Traunfeld. Note: I made this at Thanksgiving and again at Christmas. It’s really excellent and you can use canned pumpkin. It’s good topped with the Sage and Parmesan Croutons from the Butternut Squash Soup.

You can never go wrong with tomato soup! My favorite soup is baked potato soup. It’s sooo tasty. I couldn’t find the recipe I’ve been using for a while now, but for anyone interested in cooking up their own recipe, visit cooks.com. Something else that’s yummy on a cold day is gumbo. It’s not a soup per se, but it sure keeps me warm.
Wow, Wendy, all of these soups sound great! It will be tough to decide which one to try
Congrats on top 9! Your Soup truly looks wonderful!

as a fellow atlanta girl, i felt a special pride when i saw your photo on the top 9. congrats – i love tomato soup, so i was especially drawn to this post. i made some yesterday for the family – being snowed in, tomato soup and grilled cheese sammies were just the thing.
Thanks. I’ve made this tomato soup for Tim’s office staff and served with croissant club sandwiches. It was a big hit, especially if there’s homemade chocolate chip cookies for dessert.
