I took a private tour of my local Whole Foods last month and was introduced to a world of wonderfully produced local and regional products that I had not been introduced to before.
As we came to the end of our tour arriving upon the candy department, my tour guide stopped in his tracks and said something like, ‘OMG, I love this, it’s one of my favorites.’ He was referring to the Nashville Toffee Company’s toffee available in Dark Chocolate and Milk Chocolate Almond Toffee. And he proceeds to tell me that they have a great story too, but interestingly enough all these local and regional business, food or otherwise, have a great story. And as most of you know, I love a great business story.
Nashville Toffee Company is a family-owned business started by Christina McCoy Cohn. Christina previously owned a small business using many of her grandmothers’ recipes and not unlike a lot of us Southern girls, she was inspired to cook by her grandmother and great-grandmother. She and her husband, George Cohn, the great-great grandson of Nashville businessman Meier Werthan, opened Nashville Toffee Company in 2003. The toffee at the Nashville Toffee Company is handmade, the old-fashioned way using the finest, all-natural ingredients. The Nashville Toffees are distinctively packaged in an orange, burgundy and brown box. Another perfect gift for Valentine’s Day or any day you need something sweet in your life.
